Her work is inspired by quiet, peaceful moments in nature, whether at home in New Zealand or during her travels. Initially picking up a brush as a creative outlet during the Covid lockdowns, Connie found herself drawn to painting for the sense of calm it brought her. Working primarily with oil or acrylic, she begins each piece with a reference photo from her own collection, capturing serene scenes that invite viewers to pause and reflect.
Connie’s preference for high-key tones lends her paintings a soft, tranquil quality, evoking a sense of peace and relaxation. Her style has developed through continuous experimentation with various mediums, including watercolor, gouache, and acrylics, though she ultimately found a special affinity for the luxurious feel of oil paint. Primarily creating smaller works, Connie hopes her art resonates with viewers, encouraging them to unwind and recall their own cherished memories of natural beauty.
Looking ahead, Connie is exploring impressionism and aims to bring even more light into her work. She is also interested in painting en plein air to capture the essence of nature directly on location, adding depth and immediacy to her art.
You can view Connie’s work in person at the Left Bank Art Gallery in Greymouth and Colours of the Coast gallery in Hokitika.
